Support The Linux Counter Project

Donation protected
On 25 August 1991 Linus Torvalds announced his new operating system to the newsgroup "comp.os.minix".
Two years later, in 1993, Harald Alvestrand has created the Linux Counter Project  (counter.li.org) which wanted to give an estimation of the amount of Linux users in the world.
For this, he created a website  that counted the registrations of users that were using Linux. Together with some statistical information, this website was able to provide a wild guess of the number of Linux users worldwide.

This project (is and) was the first and official Linux Counter.

Many, many years gone by and in 2011, this project was nearly dead and no more in use. That time, Alexander Löhner  decided to revive and rebuild this great project from scratch. He asked Harald Alvestrand if he would give this project away and Harald agreed and gave the whole old project in Alexanders hands.

Alexander then has ordered a new domain  and built a completly new project around the old database . He revived the project and added new features to it.

Today, the project  is very popular again and the traffic statistics are greatly increasing every day.

Alexander now has bought a SSL certificate for the website and he has managed to get fully sponsored with the server hardware. But the server is a little bit small and there actually is no way to react on high traffic situations (for example when slashdot again posts an article about the Counter).

Alexander now wants to get some server setup that also has some fallback capabilities and maybe a loadbalancer. He also wants to split the database from the webservices. There are plenty of things to optimize for better security with backups and redundancy.
He also wants to buy a second SSL certificate for the API of the Linux Counter.

For this all he needs your help.

It would be absolutely fantastic, if he can buy at least two new servers, one for the webservice and one for the database. And it would be really cool, if he also can add some redundancy to the project by using a second setup.

Every financial help would be really highly appreciated!
