Oscar Garibay funeral expenses

Donation protected

Oscar Garibay had a great heart and a strong body. His death showed the power of his life. A true running back, his heart would not stop beating, even though his body was barely left. As a high school athlete, he was strong and feared as a football and basketball player. Players on the football team would rather lie down than be hit by him. He was the protector of the bullied and adored by the girls.

When he was twenty-eight, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He had an attitude of acceptance. As a visitor you wouldn’t hear complaints and feeling sorry for himself. He was always concerned about others and how they were doing. His loving parents kept him in their home as the disease ravaged his body. His mom did not work outside the home in order to take care of him. He spent the last four years fighting this disease in Parkside Nursing Home and died on Sunday under a gorgeous sunset at the age of 42. At the end of his journey, he could blink and mouth words but not speak. He rallied on Thursday before his death and was eating and communicating with his eyes and mouth formations. What a gift that was to everyone! His eyes registered so much. And then he was gone.

He was very beloved by his family with multitudes of people coming into his room throughout the days preceding his death. The love in the eyes of his family was something so precious that it cannot be duplicated. The love of his nephew, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins, not only his siblings and parents and grandparents, was consistent and sacrificing. Oscar’s nephew even stayed up all night with him and didn’t go to school the next day, typical of so many others and their sacrifice.

Oscar was Shay Wilson’s protector at Highland High School during those years when Shay was tiny with a big mouth. Oscar kept him safe.  Oscar’s family welcomed Shay with open arms and treated him like their own son. Now Shay is stepping up to keep Oscar safe. He is asking that people donate what they can to a fund for Oscar’s burial. It will be given in its entirety to the family for funeral expenses. During the last fourteen years of care, they certainly deserve a financial break, honoring Oscar’s life well-lived under profoundly difficult circumstances.

If you don’t know Oscar, Shay would appreciate your contribution, no matter how small. This is most important to Shay to honor his closest friend. So as friends, he is asking that you support this beloved family. We are better together and can make a difference. Generosity to others, even strangers, is a powerful force for good. Thank you for your consideration.
