GIVING TUESDAY 2017: HELP VETERANS RECEIVE NATIONAL SECURITY & ENERGY EDUCATION Learn more at www.vetsenergyseminar.org

The Veteran's Energy Seminar educates veterans, reservists, and military spouses on global energy challenges to inspire continued service to the country through careers in the energy industry, policy, and entrepreneurship.

The program was started by me, Dan Misch, during a fellowship with the Atlantic Council in 2016 where I received an honorable mention in the Take Point Initiative competition, which aims to engage veterans in international policy and elevate the voices of post-9/11 vets.

Although I studied physics at the Naval Academy and served as a nuclear engineer on a submarine, I shifted my career path from nuclear to R&D after learning more about climate change. I now work for the Department of Energy at Argonne National Laboratory where scientists are working to solve our energy technology needs to mitigate the national security impacts of climate change.

In 2014, I attended a training by the U.S. Department of State which introduces  Foreign Service Officers to the fundamentals of fuels, markets, regional conflicts, and international policy. I am bringing this concept to veterans because they have hands-on experience with operational energy and highly technical skill sets that can be put to use in careers toward strengthening our energy security future.

While the event is sponsored with in-kind support and scholarships from the University of Illinois,  Chicago Council on Science and Technology, Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and Invenergy, not all expenses are covered.

This giving Tuesday, I aim to raise $600 which will be used to purchase event materials, like nametags ($50), programs ($250), and a small gift for our speakers ($15/each = $300), many of whom are veterans and have generously volunteered their time and travel.

Please consider donating $10, $20, or $50 today. Any gifts beyond the $600 budget will be returned to the organizations listed above that have helped organize the event.

This is just the beginning. The pilot scheduled December 14,  2017 in Chicago will demonstrate the benefits of the concept in order to develop a sustainable program that can be repeated locally and around the country. Your donation today will help me make the best possible first impression.

Thank you very much for your support and confidence,
Dan Misch
