Dear  friends,

On June 18, our daughter Veronica Chinchilla suffered a tragic accident when she was struck by a vehicle while walking near her summer school in Vermont. She suffered multiple injuries and was air-lifted to a trauma unit where she had emergency brain surgery for intracranial hemorrhaging. She was also treated for bruised lungs and ribs, fractured bones on the right side of her face and above her right eye, and cuts and scrapes on the majority of the right side of her body.

Veronica was in Vermont to attend a 2 month intensive course in Japanese at the Middlebury Institute in Burlington.  This was an important part of her schooling that would enable her to start her graduate studies in international relations at the Monterey Institute this Fall.

Veronica received her Bachelor's Degree in 2013 from Dominican University in San Rafael, CA.  After graduation, she spent the next year volunteering in the Americorp Vista program, working with troubled inner city youth in Rhode Island.  One of her responsibilities was grant writing and she successfully procured a $15,000 grant for the program.

When Veronica returned to the Bay Area, she worked during the week and took Japanese classes on the weekends.  She needed to have a high level of competency in Japanese in order to qualify for the graduate program.  Last year, she applied for and was accepted into a 6-month intensive language course at the Yamasa Institute in Okazaki, Japan. While in Japan, she applied for the summer course that brought her to Middlebury College in Vermont.  She was accepted into the course with a full scholarship.  This was her last push to bring her Japanese skills up to the level needed to begin her graduate studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in the Fall.

Veronica has worked so hard to get to this point and with this accident, her future is uncertain. In addition to the brain surgery and treatment for her other injuries, she has had to have constant care and monitoring in the ICU. She has her own dedicated nurse, as she cannot be left alone. She is receiving wonderful care, but will continue to need further care including physical therapy and rehabilitation.

We have never had ask for anything like this before - but any donation at this time would be so gratefully received.  It would help relieve the heavy financial stress for this ordeal, and be such a blessing for Veronica and all of us.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing all of your positive energy with us.This is such a difficult time and life altering for all of us. We appreciate all of your well-wishes....more than you know!
