Support Our Natural Childbirth

As you may know, I am about to have a baby (seriously, any day now!). When I found out I was pregnant, I was 36 years old - needless to say this little blessing was a complete surprise and an experience I never thought I\'d have in this lifetime!

We were also living on rented property in rural New Mexico - happy, growing a lot of our own food and enjoying a life in the wilderness, but just getting by - we decided that the best decision would be for me to move home with my family while the father went west to California to work (sadly, missing out on most of the pregnancy in the process).

We are not health-insured, though North Carolina has been gracious enough to give me pregnancy-related Medicaid - unfortunately it only covers the kind of medical care I hope to avoid when it\'s time to bring this little one into the world. It doesn\'t cover a midwife, or a doula, or setting up for a birth at home.

My family has been wonderful and gracious, giving me my own beautiful living quarters and helping me stay healthy and well-fed - but the job market for pregnant girls isn\'t, unlike my belly, very big - I did find one, a part-time seasonal job making minimum wage and having a lot of fun at a fabric and craft store, but I\'ve since been sent home to eat bon-bons at this 11th hour.

I am also making a tiny income via my Etsy shop and through the sale of knitting patterns. Babydaddy spent his fall working long, late nights and sleeping all day to save up the money for this, too, and we will have quite a journey upon us come January when Paloma joins us.

Paloma, by the way, means \"Dove\" in Spanish. The world needs a little more peace. :-) It\'s one of the many reasons I\'d like to bring her into this world in the most gentle and peaceful way I can think of (and yes, despite the fact that her parents are, well, hot-blooded, to say the least).

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks, also, for your contribution, whether it\'s a prayer, a kind word, a reference or a donation of some sort (we\'re perfectly happy with functional hand-me-downs, yes).

Blessings,
Dori
