Teresa Avila Funeral & Nico Fund

Update 5/23/15
We are updating this page to reflect the fluidity of this unfortunate and tragic occurance.  Our original goal was to raise money to bring our sister, Teresa Avila, home to be buried near our mother and grandmother.   We were informed that due to Embassy following the US Memorial Day holiday and short turnaround, we were unable to reach the goal in time.  With a heavy heart,  the family made the difficult decision to hold her funeral and burial in Mexico in the next day, which most of her immdediate family will not be able to attend due to the short turnaround.  We will hold a mass and memorial in her name in Chicago, so our friends and family can say our goodbys.  We will update the page to reflect once the date is set.  We will keep the page open to help cover any funeral expenses and any remaining amount will go to her 2 year old son Nico as a fund to help in any way we can to make sure our nephew Nico meets basic needs.  We hope we can someday soon bring Nico to Chicago since he is our sisters son and we love him very much.  Please read below to view our original post and the description of the tragic event that made us open the page in the first place.

We thank you all for your support and generous donations and all the kind messages and condolences in this very difficult time.

The Avila-Cadena Family

Original Post 5/22/15
We are the Avila - Cadena family and we are raising money to help transport our loving sister to Chicago to be buried near our mother and grandmother.  Our sister Teresa Avila was murdered in Mexico while on a jog near her home.  She went out for a jog like she usually does when her boyfriend and brother returned from work on Wednesday.  She asked that he boyfried watch their 2 year old son and she was jogging in the area near their home with one of their two dogs.  Witnesses say that two drunk men possibly on drugs followed her on her jog and she didn't come home.  The dog that was with her did return home without her and alarmed both boyfriend and brother.  Soon after they went looking for her in the area with no luck.  A little over 26 hours later police and a search party discovered her body in a bush.  Her brother later itentified the body.

We ask that you please help with any donation to help us bury our sister and loving mother.  She is survived her 2 year old son Nico, who adored his mother and was always by her side.  He will truly miss her most.  She is also survived by her sisters, brothers, her father, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends who all love and miss her very much.  The cost to transport her body from Mexico to Chicago via the Embassy is $8,000 and the funural expenses are at least another $8,000.  We hope to collect most or all to help during this very difficult time.  The police released her body to her family this morning so time is of the essence.

Thank you for your donations and for reading about our tragic story of the sister we lost.
