Poulson Family Foundation Dedicated to the Prevention of Child Homicide within families.
85% of child homicides in Australia are carried out by a parent. The Poulson Family Foundation has a VERY clear action plan to prevent some of these murders occuring. Please read the action plan below my story.
On the very day of her 33rd birthday Rebecca Poulson's father, 4 year old niece Malee and one year old nephew Bas were brutally murdered. The murderer had been part of her loving and kind family, her brother-in-law, Neung, the father of the children. Neung was shot by Police at the scene and also died. There was a current Apprehended Order in place. Breaches of the AVO had been reported to the Police.The children had been reported to Dept of Community Services. None of these stopped the murders. From working through all the steps, sitting through her families court case and learning about various agencies and procedures Rebecca believes there are Grey areas within the systems which women and children are falling through resulting in their murders.
The Poulson Foundation directly address these areas and WILL stop more murders of children.
The main aim of the Poulson Family Foundation is to:
Install Domestic Violence education into ALL schools within Australia so children within a DV situation can see it is not normal and seek help
Police training within Domestic Violence situations including mandatory follow up of all reported breaches of Apprehended Violence Orders and that women approaching Police are for help are not Brushed Off. Figures quoted vary 40% to 70% of police work is domestic violence related yet, after leaving the academy most police receive no more DV training. Install DV training for Police EVERY year.
Support of the Department of Community Services- To increase the number of caseworkers on the ground so all child at risk reports can be investigated appropriately
To work with the government and other agencies to ensure there is appropriate emergency accommodation for mothers fleeing violence with their children
