My names paige balding, i am raising money for the Great Ormond street hospital for children as they have saved my daughters life twice, she has cardiac defects which meant I nearly lost my daughter at birth.
I first found out about my daughters complications at my 20 week scan, they told me i was having a little girl then shared the bad news with me, i was rushed to the
UCLH in London Euston Square for special scans by a heart specialist, we then found out there was a 50/50 chance of our daughter surviving, she was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect, Hypoplastic Aortic Arch and a Atrial septal defect which meant she would have to undergo major open heart surgery soon after birth.
I was induced at Londons UCLH at 39 weeks, I gave birth to my beautiful little girl who was 5lb 7oz, her size was due to the cardiac problems. I had a quick cuddle and then she was rushed to intensive care. The hospital was keeping her alive with a drug called Prostaglandin, it was keeping the emergancy valve open in heart so that blood would circulate. at 4 days old my daughter underwent her first lot of open heart surgery which was a major sucsess, she was ventilated for 3 days and under sedation to take the pain away. we was dischared home a week later.
when i got her home she had just started settling in and then took a turn for the worst, the band they put around her pomeranian atari had tightened so we was rushed back to Great Ormond street where she was rushed into theatre and underwent another lot of open heart surgery but this time they told us there was a very small chanc of her surviving, well guess what.... She survived. :)
so i am raising money to repay them for the wonderful things they do, and for saving my daughters life not once, but TWICE
Many thanks,
Paige x
