Paralyzed Young Men Desires to Continue his Education

Creating a future through your support.

Gregory had been a healthy child until he got hit by a blow of fate when he was eight years old. One day while walking towards his school in downtown Port au Prince/Haiti he fell down and couldn’t move or feel the lower part of his body anymore. His single father did the best he could to handle the situation and searched for treatment and help all over Haiti for his now thoracic-vertebra-paralyzed son. When he finally found treatment at a pediatric hospital run by a foreign NGO it was too late to discover the actual cause of the spine problem.
After Gregory’s health status had been stabilized he was raised at an orphanage site located in the Haitian mountains. By now Gregory is a grown up and talented young man who learned to substitute his limited physical abilities with intelligence. Gregory likes working with people, is interested in informatics and music and has a talent for languages. The frequent contact to staff, volunteers and visitors of the orphanage made him be interested in foreign cultures and customs. Due to the devastation caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti his education was interrupted. The collapse of countless school buildings, also buried Gregory’s desire to continue and complete his formation in his home country. Many effords to resume his training failed due to missing wheelchair accessibility of the respective school-sites, missing housing opportunities or financial resources.
After experiencing so many roadblocks instead of giving up Gregory started to search for scholarships as well as programs and organizations that provide educative opportunities for handicapped youth from developing countries. He finally found a school in Florida that is providing the opportunity to take ESL classes and subsequently will allow him to take the TOEFL exam, an obligatory proof of English language skills for foreign students planning to study in the US. As the the deadline for subscription will be on January 2nd 2016 your contemporary financial support will be highly welcome. In order to pay for travel costs, student fees, housing and the visa application process a sum of US$ 25,000 is needed.
Gregory is looking forward to re-start his studies and plans to return to his home country in order to support his step-siblings and father following the completion of his studies.

Best regards,

Gregory & Jan
