Dojo Flood Renovations
Donation protected
Dear Emerald City Aikido Community and felllow Aikidoka
As many of you know, on April 27, I received a call from the building manager that a hot water pipe burst in the ceiling above my dojo bringing down the ceiling and flooding our entire training space. We have been in the same location since 1991 and while there have been leaks over the years, none have been as bad as this one. Last summer I replaced our original mats with new ones. I also replaced all the rugs throughout the studio.
The new mats absorbed the water like a sponge as did the sprung floor underneath them. All will need to be replaced. The Japanese scroll given to me by the head of our lineage was badly damaged. All the light fixtures were ruined. While there is insurance coverage for some of these items and assistance from the landlord, there are financial gaps to putting the dojo back together.
We have a wonderful community of adults and children training at Emerald City Aikido. Many of our community and friends from other dojos have offered assistance. This Go Fund Me site is a way for those of you who would like to help with the gap. No contribution is too small. On behalf of all at Emerald City Aikido. Thank you.
