Help Special Needs Kids

Providence Therapeutic Equestrian Center (www.providencetec.com)  exists to enrich and empower the lives of children, youth and adults with special needs through equine-assisted activities.

Currently we can only serve those with special needs for 6 months out of the year.  Interruptions in therapy adversely affect the progress of our participants.

We are raising funds for an indoor therapeutic riding arena would permit us to offer equine-assisted services year round.

We provide weekly horseback riding lessons and other equine assisted activities to children and adults with special needs. All sessions are taught by a certified PATH Int. instructor. or led by an EAGALA certified equine specialist. The horses used in the program undergo thorough training and are chosen for their gentleness.  They will accept unusual or spastic movement and are responsive and adept at meeting the unique needs of their riders.

Therapeutic riding lessons are planned with the individual’s educational, physical, social and recreational goals in mind.  Participants with a wide variety of disabilities are active in this program, which comprises the core of Providence’s services. Prospective participants who express interest in the program are provided with information and the forms required for application. Once all forms are completed and returned to us, the applicant’s eligibility will be assessed.

Once an applicant has been accepted into the program, therapeutic goals are established and progress is documented throughout the session. Most participants have one 30-60 minute lesson each week for the five week session, with the majority continuing their lessons from one session to the next.

Fees for service cover approximately 30% of our costs and donations enable us to subsidize the remaining 70%.  With our commitment to accepting participants into our programs based on therapeutic need, regardless of financial means, we offer further scholarship assistance to those unable to pay the established fees. Most of our Equine Assisted Activities program participants received direct scholarship assistance toward their program fees.
