Fund Dayna & Lauren's Transplant

Donation protected
Dayna is a gifted musician who’s musical affiliations reads like a who’s who of jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Terrance Blanchard, Bobby Short, Kenny Garret just to name a few. At the age of 19 Dayna was diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) a rare kidney disease that inevitably requires organ transplant. After many efforts to prevent the unavoidable, he began dialysis in 2010.

Though dialysis has improved with time, the frequency and physical burden of the treatment significantly diminished Dayna’s ability to tour and perform. In spite of the mental and physical fatigue, Dayna continues to travel and plays sometimes to total exhaustion. Against the odds, since starting dialysis, he performed in Finland, Israel, Alaska and recorded six successful albums, two of which charted on Billboard. As a testimony of his trials and tribulations through his illness, his most recent album is aptly entitled "Peace"

After years of waiting to reach the top of a transplant waiting list, Dayna now has a live donor who has lovingly agreed to gift him a kidney, his aunt Lauren Bullock. After spending Thanksgiving with Dayna, Lauren saw first hand the daily struggles he lives with. Without hesitation she decided she wanted to give him the chance to have a "normal" life. Last month Lauren, who is also a skilled performing artist, was successfully screened as an organ match for Dayna.

Lauren, who began singing professionally in 1991 as a background vocalist for many recording artists such as Howard Hewitt, Eric Roberson, Kindred Family Soul, Patti Labelle, as well as, a successful solo artist on the East and West Coasts, has always shared a passion for music with Dayna. They have shared the stage on several occassions, so it's only fitting that they now will share the gift of life.

This surgery will be a grand duo, a performance of a life time!

The surgery is planned for August 2015. Many expenses will be incurred with this process. Dayna is self-employed and has no paid time off, while Lauren's time off is considered "elective" and not covered under her disabilty. Please join us in this fundraising effort to support Dayna and Lauren.

Thank you in advance for helping us make this long awaited gift come true.
