This is my son. I call him T, or T-monster. He is literally my favorite person in the world. He's fun to be around, super smart, and has a beautiful smile. He's 8 years old and wants to be a scientist, an engineer, an artist and an author. He loves wearing suits and ties (so he can look like the Doctor from Doctor Who), watching superhero movies (his current favorite is Ant-Man), and building with LEGOs.
We've recently discovered that T needs braces for a crossbite and a couple other super fun orthodontia problems. Getting him an expander, and then braces, while his body is still growing is the best option of fixing the problem now and not waiting until it requires surgery.
I'm a single mother with not a lot of help from his father, but I never want that to deter him from having the best life possible. I work a full-time job with the university, and have picked up little side jobs I can do from home that involve editing and writing. The basic necessities are covered, and we have health insurance through my work. The problem is that orthodontia is not covered by my insurance. Even my dental insurance pretty much only covers preventative measures. I have a health savings account that I try to put a little extra in each month, but braces would cost almost four times as much as I have in the HSA.
They say that it takes a village to raise a child, and so I'm reaching out to my village to help cover the cost of the expander and braces. It's not easy to ask for help, especially when it comes to finances. Asking someone to watch my kid so I can have a night out is a lot different from asking someone to help pay for something I think I should be able to cover on my own. I am his parent, and my responsibility includes providing him access to great healthcare. But I can't do this one on my own. And I need to accept that.
Please consider helping fund orthodontia for my beautiful son. Even a small amount will go a long way to helping cover these costs. I will be eternally grateful for any help received, and will find some way to show you how thankful I am to have this wonderful village to help me raise my son.
