Help Me Restart Life From Nothing

Donation protected
This GoFundMe is for myself, Rebecca and also for Oscar, my fiancé and partner in life for over 6 years now.  We have been living together for over a year now since I moved out of my parent’s home.

The situation that occurred to us has been a long five, going on- six-month struggle that has been one pitfall after another.

On January 20, 2015, a Tuesday around 5 in the afternoon Oscar was walking across and intersection when a car hit him. He was hospitalized with trauma to his body (cuts, road rash, bruising) and a gash in his head requiring him to get stitches. He had difficulty standing and walking with heart fluctuations and fainting on a daily basis. Oscar had no health or car insurance due to abandonment by his family over a year ago due to issues with us reporting them for child neglect, child abuse physically and SEXUAL ABUSE OF 2 MINORS UNDER THE AGE OF 10 AND ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 12 which Oscar’s family then pulled Oscar’s insurance without notice and he was caught without insurance when driving a car he was under joint policy with his Step-Father (causing him to be fined as a DUI driver because of fallacies in law writings. The cost of him being able to reinstate his license would be a 1800$ SR-200 insurance plan, plus an additional 300$ because Oscar-while not a member of his direct blood relatives (mother, two sisters and a step father) still resides at the same address and under Florida law he is in the same category as a squatter and has to pay fucking unreasonably.

For the month of January into February- I, Rebecca, struggled in and out of school while trying to tend to Oscar and make sure he is present for ever doctor appointment he had to attend for examinations, x-rays and CAT scans. Oscar also had to attend physical therapy sessions I also had to drive him to three days a week in the mornings which would cost us about 2 hours of our day including commuting.

By March, everything was routine, Oscar was getting a lot stronger physically but still struggling when moving around. We were able to meet with a friend who was an attorney who offered to help us fight for compensation for the neglectful actions of the drive who hit Oscar at a very small fraction of the cost. We were and are still incredibly thankful for the work of her and her office.

Oscar then got into an altercation where he was defending his drugged out mother from her own daughters shit talking. Because Oscar spoke out against the 12 year olds words, the stepfather was enraged and exploded on Oscar. He threatened him and it escalated to him physically assaulting him, choking Oscar and then when finishing put up his fists like a boxer ready for the match. Oscar did not react physically to the attacks, he took the high road and safe road (after having just been in an accident and still recovering)- he left immediately from his home. He sought the aid of close relatives, aunts and grandmother- they did nothing and still have done nothing for us. The only thing they have to say is that Oscar should apologize.

I had purchased back in December a ticket to go to Walt Disney World with Oscar. I planned to go on the day before my birthday and be there for my birthday and be back in time for finals. On April 10, the day before- we received a phone call- a short 30-second phone call from his grandmother. She told him that the police were at the house; look for him, that he had an eviction notice that his mother signed for. THE PERSON EVICTING HIM ACCEPTED HIS ANNOUNCEMENT PAPERS ON BEHALF OF HIM. The phone call ended, it was still about 1 in the afternoon. The day was bright and hot and completely turned up side down.

The entire trip was affected and I had to proceed with finishing my finals for school. I couldn’t stop 4 years of work right at the very end. Oscar works every day working apparel sales and website content production and distribution. He makes less than 90$ a week because he has a physical problem- he has IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) as well as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). Before any of the events since January 2015 Oscar has been experiencing these two reoccurring daily struggles. He cannot eat many foods and struggles to be able to digest the foods he can. He cannot do a lot of physical labor. He wants to be able to design and live off of freelance work but his hard work finds HUGE audiences on places like tumblr but with no cash return.

Two weeks later, April 28 my graduation I put on my best smile and went through graduation in complete dread and honestly great regret. I wish I could have been carefree. Screaming with everyone and wanting to actually record my own graduation. I agreed with Oscar that I didn’t want him taking photos of today. This was not a day we want to remember. I went through graduation and had to meet my family who I have tense relations with as well for lunch. It was a polite lunch with a gift of sunglasses given which I really honestly could not have accepted. I sat with Oscar until evening at the mall when my family left home. I realized I had to return the gifts. I also received a photo frame to put my graduation photo inside. It was cheap and it felt shameful looking at it. I digress. I went to my family’s home to return the gifts and after a 2-hour long discussion- then fight over my wants vs. my parents. I want to stay in Miami and work. My school has a trip gifted to graduates every year where this year was to the Venice Biennale. My parents wanted to travel with my in Europe afterword. A two weeklong trip extends to 4. I needed to be here with Oscar and continue to push until we have money to live and eat.

I work a job at an art gallery in downtown Miami. I am only capable working there three days a week (down from a five day week) because of the recent altercations with my family- I had to beg and cry to get my job back. They considered my liability due to my terrible situation.

I help Oscar be able to eat without a kitchen by taking him to eat at McDonald’s on a daily basis. We go there once a day normally between 8 pm – 12 am. We try to wait and see how long until we get hungry- like really hungry.

My parents took the car they gifted me which I pay for as well as well as the apartment they help me rent out to live close to my work. My work is in downtown; the apartment is in the dadeland area while my parents live next to the Deering estate in Palmetto Bay.

That night, April 28, there was a terrible thunder storm. With a pair of shorts and a t-shirt while Oscar was in just jeans and a tee walked through the rain from Deering Estate essentially to Black Point Marina. We both carried bags of my very personal things that I was so thankful to have had on me. We were soaked; I was extremely heartbroken by my parent’s actions. We slept at his parent’s house in the one room we can reside in and yet still fear attacks. We changed the lock on the door around January because we just needed to change it from being in a house from the 1970s.

A house falling apart from neglect and poor construction. Oscar’s family’s house is absolutely a health hazard for everyone in it and around it. All of the walls. Every single wall- I can point out to you patches of mold larger than 5 inches in diameter. The showers are full of black and green mold and with I kid you the fuck not leeches that come out when the water is on. Two young girls- an elementary and middle school student are living in these conditions with a broken a/c unit that breaks in the nights- causing the rest of the family to all sleep in one bed. Two adults, and two minors in a bed with a dog- every single night.

I struggled balancing work with taking care of myself physically and finishing up the refining moments of my final BFA project due on April 12 complete for hanging.

Finally, today, as I am writing it- May 6, 2015 I came to Oscar’s house after work with food to use in the weak oven to get started as soon as possible. He opened the door to greet me and help me take bags inside. We found a RUSH- 5- DAY EVICTION ORDER.

And that’s why I am writing to you guys. Complete and utter transparency.

We are looking to get as money as we physically can.

I will let you know right now.

The first 300$ will be going to get Oscar’s license registrations fees cleared so he can reinstate his license. We figured that if he had the ability to use his car and drive it again- he could sleep in it for the time being.

We would be then 1800$ for a special insurance plan that he has to specifically apply for.

We are looking to get 200$ to repair Oscar’s car which has a hornet infestation as well as a broken engine because it has not been driven or moved in over two years. Just so it’s running and he can move around.

Then about 3000$ for a deposit for a rental home because Oscar is now flagged because of his eviction and it is now more costly for him to be a renter even with my co-signing.

Oscar has about 1000$ left in his bank account while I have 2,600$ in my own.

I have car payments and insurance to still pay. I am also the main person who pays for majority of our meals and Oscar pays for a treat meal maybe once a month.

I am asking for your help everyone. I tried to be the best person I could be and it was not good enough.

Anything you can would be amazing.

With Oscar’s level of eviction he will be forced to leave in 5 ‘working’ days. So we will be spending our time moving all of his things into a new safe place we have to find.

Thank you guys for listening and I guess really reading. Apologies for the time.
