Lyz's Senior Year at WSU
If you know me at all, you know that I am not the type of person to ever ask for anything and that I have never had anything in life handed to me. That's why the situation I'm in is really difficult.
This year is supposed to be my senior year at Wright State University, except I will be kicked out unless I pay WSU $1200 (the difference between the actual cost of WSU and the financial aid and loans I have received) by August 15th, 2015.
I currently have none of that money. Literally, none of it. Neither do either of my parents, who have already sacrificed so much, taken out loans, and paid thousands of dollars out-of-pocket to get me through my first three years of college.
Right now, I am preparing to move back to campus on the 12th for job training as a Resident Assistant in campus housing, a job that I am very excited to begin. This job has been a blessing because it will allow me to live on campus for free, greatly reducing my college costs. However, this job is also a massive commitment of time and energy. I also plan to complete my teaching internship this year, another great, but unfortunately unpaid, opportunity.
Being a first generation college student has been an incredibly difficult, but rewarding, experience. And my time at WSU has allowed me to discover my true passion (teaching the English language to non-native speakers) and my true self. I know that this is not how my journey is meant to end.
Thank you for your time in reading (and hopefully, sharing) this message and campaign.
