Fifi's Tuition Campaign

Donación protegida
Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, one of my favorite things about my job is traveling to South Africa. And while the actual travel is lovely, what's more amazing is the people I've had the fortune meet. At the top of that list is Fifi. I met her 4 years ago and we have developed a familial bond- I am her Aunt Taryn. She is bright, kind, good-hearted, hard-working, thoughtful, and genuine. She has overcome more obstacles in her 19 years than many of us will face in a lifetime and has done so without the support or consistency of family. Her birth parents both deceased, Fifi was passed around from one relative to another for most of her childhood, yet she maintained a vision of a bright future for herself.
Fifi is now in her second year at The University of Johannesburg. She is studying Film and Sociology and plans to add International Relations next year.
If she is able to stay in school.
And here is where you become invaluable...
Fifi was unable to secure Financial Aid for this year due to conditions beyond her control. She needs to raise $6000 to allow her to stay in school, and she has been given assurances that her aid will be back for next year. If you were all to contribute even $15(2 trips to starbucks) to this cause, we could reach our goal with ease. I can not stress how imperative it is that she remain at University. This is not a situation where a student can simply take a "gap-year" and move back home with their parents and get a job. Her living situation would be precarious at best and the town she is from is bankrupt; jobs are not available. This is a good girl. She deserves a chance.
It goes without saying that I will be eternally grateful for your support and I hope that you will take a brief moment to contribute to the future of my dear friend.

Love,
Taryn

**A letter from Fifi**

Hello,

My name is Refiloe Seranyane (Fifi) and I am a second year student at the University of Johannesburg. I am studying for my BA in Film and International Communications. I am a very motivated and passionate young lady and I work very hard to achieve my goals. I am writing to you in the hopes that you will help me secure the opportunity to further my studies and become the woman I’ve always imagined.

I grew up in a community where people aim to survive and never have aspiration beyond that. This was the same in my family; some people finished matric (high school) and that was their greatest achievement. However from a young age I had the desire to be different. I wanted to be better- I wanted more out of life and I wanted to make people proud. I believe that if I dream big, and work hard enough, I can achieve those goals. I knew then that I would be the one to break the cycle of poverty at home. I became the first one to go to University. Graduating with a degree in what I am passionate about would be the greatest achievement in my life. I want to use art to change lives. I want to give people an opportunity to have their story told.

I would be grateful if I am granted an opportunity to further my studies by gaining funding for my second year. You would be investing in the future of a South African Daughter- one that is going to make you proud.

Warmest Regards,

Refiloe
