Preserving Small Town WWII Museum

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Dalton Bequette, I along with my friend Patrick Lawrence represent a concerned group of individuals that live in Asheboro NC, the home of the North Carolina aviation Museum and Hall of Fame. The museum is located on the Asheboro Regional Airport using two hangars for displays, both hangars used to be operational before the museum moved in. The individuals I represent are history enthusiasts and people of the community that love our museum that represents the aviation history of North Carolina.  We have long enjoyed our humble museum as it holds many treasures and community treasures as well including such things as historical copies of the local newspaper, a display for the Piedmont Airlines, pictures of local pilots, war memorabilia from our WWII and Vietnam war veterans, much of this being donated from local sources. Since the moment I first saw this museum I fell in love with it, it was a place where I felt close to my grandfather though he died a couple years ago, and many others have similar stories, this museum means so much to so many of us!

It is for that reason that I am writing this. The museum started out in the early 90's as a fantastic museum with some very popular planes, however over time the planes got moved to other places and the museum started to degress. Due to having a low funding the museum can't afford the equipment needed to seal and properly display the war relics and other artifacts kept at the museum while maintaining the proper temperature.

In the summer time in NC it can get up to 100 degrees inside the hangar, and due to the hangar's original intent as an active hangar it does not having any air conditioner units. This causes us to have to keep the doors open and fans on. Combine that with the heat and it is very destructive on relics and other museum items. Evidence of fading, rusting, yellowing is causing slow deterioration.  This will shorten the lifespan of all the uniforms and other delicate pieces of history incredibly, and soon will not be able to be displayed to their condition.

This is where the group Patrick and I represent steps in, we want to raise money in order to fund the purchase of an air conditioner unit and controlled environment system to give to the museum to help preserve the relics displayed. The use of an air conditioner will also allow us to keep the museum open longer during the hot months and attract more people to the museum on a hot day when it is cool in the museum. We want to help preserve the museum in order for the children of today to bring their grandchildren to the same museum and see that the artifacts live well in the museum. Our museum connects the future to the past, please help us keep this piece of history in order for future generations to come and learn about our Aviation History!

These pictures represent the aircraft we used to have along with the museum used to look:

Our goal is to bring some of these and other well known aircaft back to the museum.

Here's some images of the slow deterioration we are fighting:

In order to help us please consider donating money to purchase a controlled enviorment system for the preservation of these pieces of history! And PLEASE share with others!
