Help WWII Vet Return to Europe

Donation protected

World War II Veteran Bill LaBar fought with Co. B, 1st Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division of Patton's Third Army in 5 campaigns, including Normandie, the Lorraine Campaign, and the Battle of the Bulge.  Bill is the recipient of the French Legion of Honor.  He says he cannot tell you all the names of the towns they liberated because they moved so fast, and in reading the daily log journal interviews, the evidence of this statement is stark .  It is Bill's desire to return to Europe and follow along the path of Company B 318th Regiment to pay his respects to those men he fought with that didn't come home,
and to reflect upon the events he lived through 71 years ago, but he cannot afford to go.  I have offered to take him but I cannot afford the cost of his trip on my own.  He is relatively mobile and able to make the trip.  Time, of course, is of the essence as he is 89 years old (he will turn 90 while we are away on the trip.)   Would you please consider helping one of our Country's Greatest Generation return to Europe?  This would mean so much to him and it is just one small way we can say "Thank You" to one of our Nation's heroes. Thank you for your consideration.

About Me:
My name is Suzanne and I am a lifelong amateur World War historian.  I also volunteer with a couple of national non-profit organizations whose missions are to honor our Country's Veterans.  I have made 5 trips to Normandie - 3 times for D-Day commemorations, once to take my children, and once to lead a tour of 13 people.  I was invited this year (for the 2nd year in a row) to speak at one of the officially recognized events during the D-Day commemoration events.  Last year I spoke at the celebration in Ste. Mere Eglise on French national television and this year I spoke at the American Cemetery at the official wreath laying ceremony on June 7.   I am a lifetime member of Phi Alpha Theta (the National History Honor Society) and am the 2006 winner of the Kathryn Anne Governal Perseverance Award winner from the University of Arizona.
