Yuri's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
It breaks my heart that I have to type this.

We adopted our Great Pyrenees, Yuri, in the summer of 2012. We had been looking for a pug, but as soon as we saw him on the Idaho Humane Society's site, we knew we had to go meet him.

As he slowly lumbered out of his quarantined kennel due to a round of kennel cough, we fell in love with him. He just stood there and let us pet him and he began to lean against us for support as Pyrs are known to do. We took him home with us the next day. Since we've had him, he's made our lives 100% better, there's nothing like coming home after a long day at work or school and seeing his big brown eyes looking up at you or hearing his tail thump against the wall when he hears you come in.

If you've ever met David or I, you know that we adore this dog with our entire beings. I could describe ever aspect about this wonderful dog and would never be able to portray just how amazing he is. He's not, "just a dog," he's our child, and we want to be able to protect him from everything.

Throughout the past two years, Yuri has brought so much joy to our lives as we have tried to return the favor in giving him the best life that we could. Unfortunately, life has decided to give him osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer that destroys the bones from the inside out. 90% of the time it has already mestasized in the chest and lungs by the time that pet owners catch it, luckily for us, Yuri's chest is clean so far with no signs of any tumors. His front left leg is not so lucky.

Chemo does not have a high success rate on this kind of cancer, due to the extremely aggressive nature of this form. Our options are either medicate the pain until we decide to put him down and risk the spreading of the cancer, or to amputate his leg which would eliminate the pain of the tumor and hopefully prevent it from spreading.

In order to amputate is leg it will cost at least $1,000. Our goal is $1,500 to give us some wiggle room in case some things cost more than estimated.

He's only 6 and we would love to have him for as many years as we can give him. Any amount that you can give will be extremely appreciated by all three of us.

Any amount helps, even sharing the link to this page would mean a lot.

Donate and we'll send you a postcard with this angel's smiling face on it, a thank you note, and an attempted paw print signature of his.

Thank you.

Love,
David, Tori, and Yuri (aka: Boo Bear, Buddy, Boo Boo, Yuri Bear, Baby Bear, Big Dummy)
