Reignite Our Lights at Traxler Tees

Donation protected
Traxler Tees LLC dba Traxler Custom Printing (TCP) would like to upgrade the lighting in our new printing facility at 3029 Silver Drive in Columbus, Ohio but need your assistance. You've helped us grow to the wonderful Buy Local - Buy Ohio printing facility we are today, help up grow internally, better utilize our resources and help reduce our impact on our environment.

October 2014 we moved into our new - massive - printing facility of 11,000sq ft to expand products and services we offer locally. However, the building is in need of some serious upgrades! First and foremost - we need lights! We of course have lighting currently however it is extremely old, out dated, expensive to run and maintain, and really poor for color matching and mixing inks.

CURRENT LIGHTING: Old T8 2 Bulb Fixtures and 400watt Metal Halide fixtures.

SHOWN BELOW: We installed 1 - T5 Fixture and turned off almost all the other lights, it makes a world of difference as you can see.

TCP is looking for YOUR support in helping us upgrade first the lighting and eventually this will afford us the ability to make additional upgrades. This is extremely important to us for a few reasons:
- Poor lighting makes mixing and matching ink colors very difficult.
- Outdated metal halide lighting is expensive to operate and we have approximately 40 metal halide fixtures.
- The outdated lighting is hogging out electrical resources in our location - we  have equipment we cannot currently use due to the total amperage the lights are using. Once we upgrade, we can use our other equipment.

Here are some shots of our poor lighting:

Our vision for the new shop:
-Designed and built locally from locally sourced labor, supplies, and fixtures.
-Built using up-cycled materials (currently our showroom is built from 100% reclaimed wood)
-Add solar in the next year to power lighting, low amperage equipment and more
-Reduce utility cost by replacing all equipment that "hogs" energy with more efficient and sustainable energy methods.

The cost:
- Lighting fixtures will replace approximately 40 400watt metal halide fixtures with much more efficient 4 and 6 bulb T5 fixtures - these fixtures are $175.00 each = $7000.00
- Bulbs for all fixtures 40 fixtures X 6 bulbs each totals 240 bulbs at $3.00 each = $720.00
- Labor estimate we've received $2000.00 - $3000.00

The savings! Oh, the savings! We are working with AEP of Ohio to take advantage of their rebate system in which they will help pay for a portion of the cost once complete. Their contribution is estimated at $1800.00 we will also save approximately $2000.00+ annually just in lighting.

Summary of expenses and savings:
Fixtures: $7000.00
Bulbs: $720.00
Labor & Materials: $2000.00 - $3000.00
AEP Rebate: -$1800.00

TOTAL: $7920.00-$8920.00

FACTS:
For years, the standard in industrial and warehouse lighting has been the 400W Metal Halide High Bay.

Advancements in ballast development have led to many new lighting solutions for these applications.

While there are many fluorescent products and different fluorescent lamp types, this article will focus on the T5 HO linear fluorescent or F-bay as they are known in the industry.

Let’s look at some of the benefits of switching existing 400 Watt High-bays out with the new F-bay.

Energy Efficient T-5 Fixtures Use Less Electricity

A 400 Watt Metal Halide fixture uses 454 Watts.

A Replacement T-5 fixture can use as low as 190 Watts.

Fewer Watts = Fewer Kilowatts reducing our facilities overall cost of operating.

Less Wattage = Lower Cost

A key factor in many managers decision to change out there lighting is the T5’s ability to not only produce better light, but also to do it while consuming far less energy.

We use a T5 HO fixture that consumes 190 watts compared to the 454 watts that a typical 400W High Bay consumes.

In nearly all instances the new foot candle readings surpass those of the old lighting.

Energy Efficient T-5 Bulbs Experience Less Light Loss

No matter which fluorescent tube manufacturer you use their products all share one characteristic, they all will lose some of their output ability.

Fluorescent products will lose roughly 5-6% of their light output as they age.

In comparison, Metal Halide lamps can lose as much as 35-40% of their light output during the same life span.

That percentage of loss only gets worse as the bulb ages, all while still consuming the same 454 watts of electricity.

New T-5's Create Better Light
CRI is the measure of lights ability to reproduce what a color would look like in natural daylight.

The old Metal Halide lighting has a CRI index between 65-70.

New T5 HO lighting has a CRI index of 85.

Lower CRI affects the eye’s ability to see contrast, detail, and can also cause eye strain.

T-5 Fixtures Come on Instantly

All H.I.D. lamps need time to warm up and reach full lighting potential, which is why it was always such a pain to turn them off.

T5 HO fixtures are instant on/instant off, allowing the use of motion sensors or advanced lighting controls to even further your energy savings.

Energy Efficient Lighting = Lower Costs

In today’s economy where every dollar counts and electricity costs are only rising, upgrading your lighting system is one of the best business investments you can make into your company.

The return on investment is relatively quick, usually under 2 years. Pair that with much longer life and you can continue to reap the benefits year after year.
