Minnie's Beat Cancer Fund

A disgnosis of cancer is always hard to get, no matter the circumstance.   It's especially devastating when you get it for a seemingly perfectly healthy friend.  Last Friday I found a lump on Minnie and had it aspirated the next day.  By Tuesday we had a diagnosis of Lymphoma.  The life expectancy without treatment was three weeks.

What.   I couldn't even.  She's still her super happy, bouncy Boxer self.     It just seemed so unfair.  I'll admit it.....I cried.  A lot.  And then I put my big girl panties on and made an appointment with a very highly recommended veterinary oncologist.  We received much better news than we were expecting.   The survival rate for chemotherapy is up to a year and the best thing?    85% of dogs don't experience any sort of side effects from chemo.   I was very concerned about treating a dog with Addison's for cancer but the vet assured me that she had treated several Addisonian dogs with no issues.

We sat down that night as a family and made the decision to go ahead with treatment.   I just couldn't look at this happy, healthy little dog and give up.  Plus, she loves going to the vet so the treatments won't be traumatic for her.

The big question: Why doesn't Minnie have pet insurance?  I'm asking myself that same question. I'm SO mad at myself.  I  thought about it but with her pre-existing Addison's disease I always thought we would dealing with that at the end of her life.    Not an unexpected diagnosis of Lymphoma.  Please insure your pets so that you don't have to go through this!

I was reluctant to put up a fundraiser as I felt responsible for not insuring Minnie but I've had several people ask about donating so I decided to just suck it up and do it for Minnie.
