HELP BRING MR. MIKE HOME!

Someone pointed out this is a considerable amount of reading, so: if you know who I am, I’m trying to get a more recognized teaching Certificate to work my way back to Bulgaria. If you do not know me Read on...

My name is Brenda and I wish to give an introduction to Mr. Mike’s bio on gofundme. I’ve worked with Mike for six months and have been in the field of health care working with disabled adults for 10 years. Mike is one of the rarest of rare persons you encounter in life that not only believes in but also lives by the code of ethics that embody integrity, honesty, compassion and is a true Good Samaritan. Everyone who has an encounter with Mike has been touched in a positive way. From the individuals he supports to co-workers, friends, family, even when he is having the toughest of times you would never know as he offers “you support and will help out in any way he can.” He has given so much to those he works with every day often going above and beyond without pay and helping out other’s financially at times – Mike will give a co-worker money for gas who is financially stretched when it means he will be eating a little less until the next pay day. He is too humble to ever admit to his good works or ask for help and why I and other friends have urged him to get on gofundme and for one of the rare times (or ever) to ask other’s to pay it forward for him as he has done for so many his entire life. Over all the years I have worked in health care I can be a pretty cynical person working in such a broken system. In knowing and working with Mike he restores my faith in humanity that decent caring human beings truly do exist! I hope to return the favor to Mike and help him achieve his dreams.

Hi! My name is Mike. I was raised from an early age in a home where my parents included raising/supporting those with disabilities in our home. I learned and embraced supporting and working with persons with various disabilities from mental to physical disabilities. In addition my parents supported and hosted exchange students so I grew up in a very eclectic home with people from all walks of life which ignited and nurtured my sense of curiosity and adventure.

When my parents passed away I found myself battling depression due to care-giver burn out. Though I have never regretted my decision to be there for my parents whom I loved very much I found that putting one’s life on hold for 15 years during prime years where you normally explore and try on different professions, find what you love to do and pursue that path I was not able to do. At my darkest moments a dear family member suggested, “Why don’t you go teach in Bulgaria as that is what you’ve said you would love to do.”

So in 2009-2010 with a very unexpected financial wind-fall that is what I did and had the most amazing experience of my life when I lived and taught English at a school in Sophia, Bulgaria. Though I knew that I’d found my dream job and a place I wished to make my permanent home unfortunately I was unable to remain to work and live in Bulgaria due to not having a more recognized certificate in teaching then the one I hold at this time. In researching I found the most cost effective on-line course from TEFL Academy that would meet the requirements to working and teaching in Bulgaria is $1,300.00 for a 11 week mainly on-line course. I must be able to maintain my 40+ hour a week job to cover my living expenses and so an on-line course will help me achieve my goal as well as maintaining supporting myself financially.

Secondly I found that my computer is too old to stream line live lectures that I must be able to view to pass these courses and wish to either get a mid-range computer that can handle stream-line lectures or if anyone can “donate” such a computer to me I would greatly appreciate it. If I cannot receive a donated computer than can handle the above requirement I would need $600.00 to purchase one that can.

Many may question me as to why Bulgaria? My answer is there is a vibrancy and curiosity among the students in Bulgaria I taught which is amazing. It is a different culture and one that resonates for me that I have not found any where else to date. I have not always been able to make friends as easily here in the United States I was able to in Bulgaria. I have to work long and hard hours here to just tread water with monthly bills and even then I am not always able to make my monthly bills which precludes my being able to afford taking classes and having a computer to be able to take those classes to qualify to work in Bulgaria. My current employment is in a field that though I am qualified does not pay for skilled/experience employees of which I am one and though I excel in this field and care for those I support I am a teacher at heart and wish to return to the one thing in my life that embodies the passion and spirit that I was intended to do with my life.

Due to the current situation of health care employment in Idaho with extremely low pay which remains stagnant over decades even working consistent over-time to barely pay my frugal monthly bills my hopes and dreams of receiving the education to return to Bulgaria seems almost impossible to reach. At times I battle depression and working in one of the highest stress related professions combined with depression and diabetes it has taken a toll on both my physical and mental health. Everyone at times needs help to get on their feet and on their chosen path. That is why I am asking for any assistance and/or forwarding on my gofundme information via email to others who may wish to help. If you can post to your Facebook to get the word out it would be greatly appreciated. I am asking at this time for those who can find it in their hearts to “help pay it forward” I will insure that I do the same when my turn comes.
