First of all, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get here and read this.
The whole purpose of this is to give people an insight into why we, as a family, have set up this page and to hopefully use this platform to get the help we need.
So…
Roughly two months ago, we found out that our Dad; Tony, has Liver Cancer. He went up to St. Vincent's hospital in Dublin and after a few tests were done the news was confirmed. It was explained to him that his only course of treatment was a chemo tablet. Surgery, transplant and traditional chemo were off the table. This chemo tablet is designed to reduce the cancer and prolong life, but it is not traditionally used to cure cancer.
Fortunately we were able to get a second opinion from some Doctors in Atlanta, in the United States. They spoke of a new treatment, currently unavailable in Europe that uses irradiated glass beads to treat the cancer in the specific area, as opposed to traditional chemo which essentially poisons everything in the hopes that the cancer is taken care of first.
After a vein mapping procedure it was found that our Dad is currently unfit for this specific procedure, but with a higher dosage of the current chemo tablets, hopefully he will get to a place where the cancer has subsided enough to go ahead with this new treatment.
So, this is what we’re looking for and what it will do:
Our current asking price is $145,000. This is a combination of current debts accrued already to get our Dad over to America in the first place and see these specialists.
Each visit to this facility runs around $10,000, and he has been there twice, with another appointment scheduled for the end of April.
Should he get into a position where he is fit to have this procedure, the costs we are told will run anywhere from $60,000 to $100,000, on top of the visit fees and all currently accrued expenses.
This is a huge ask to reach out to people for financial help, especially as we all know people have their own battles and financial worries to fight themselves. But as it stands right now, this is our only option.
One final note well worth a mention. The initial prospects for treatment that our Dad was given was earth shattering and incredibly final. To any and all who find themselves in a similar position, seek a second opinion, even one that you may think is beyond your reach. It has given us hope and a chance to do something more than just wait.
