Tom's Van Fund

Donation protected
Hi: My name is Thomas Sagle. I am 32 years old and have been a quadriplegic since 1997 when I suffered a swimming accident, in Dowling, Ont., which broke my neck. I live at 582 Haig St., Sudbury in the ICAN Apartment building. These apartments are handicap friendly, with on call attendant care. I am on ODSP funding, $748 with no other income. I spend most of my time on the computer or watching TV. I love to go hunting and fishing. I spend time at my brother Micheal’s home, where we watch car racing and hockey games.
I love to visit my parents, Dale and Nancy Sagle, who live on the Manitoulin Island. My sister Melanie and her family live in Val Caron. We have wonderful bus service in Sudbury…tongue in cheek….. But it is not always convenient for the appointments and outings I like to take.
The above are reasons I need my own mode of personal transportation. Although getting to my brothers is the easiest thing. To get to my sisters or my doctors I need transportation. Summer, I can wheel myself to many things I like or need to do. For instance last summer I went to the New Sudbury Shopping center……part way home my batteries died…..I had to call a taxi to take me the rest of the way home!! Winter???!!!! Forget it if it is not too cold, then there is too much snow.
To go fishing and hunting I go to my parents on the Manitoulin Island. GOOD FISHING!! Thanks to generous uncles and cousins I have places to do my hunting. But this is the North none of those things are close together.
My last handicapped van was a 1993 Caravan. Just recently it broke down on my way home from deer hunting camp!! My dad said it is not worth fixing as it is too old and he was afraid it would strand me where there was no help or cause an accident!!

My brother Mike has already purchased a 2014 Dodge Caravan that we want to retrofit to accommodate my chair and his family as well. This would give me a safer mode of transportation and I could participate in more activities as well as attend family functions.
I am asking for your help towards me getting the van retrofitted. Any amount of funding you would see fit to give would be greatly appreciated. Attached is some estimates I have received stating the cost to make the van handicapped equipped.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you
