Rebuilding Homes in Rural Nepal

I am raising funds to rebuild houses that were lost by my Nepali family in the Rasuwa district of Nepal.
My name is Karla Piecuch, and I live on Bainbridge Island, WA. My connection to Nepal and to the Tamang family is strong and deep. I met Phurpu Tsering Tamang in the late 1990's when he was just 19 and I was on my first trek in the Langtang region; we have been "family" ever since. He was born and grew up in Thulo Shyabru and lives in Shyabru bensi (little Shyabru). He is now married to Kanchhi and they have 3 beautiful children, Jeena (12), Yangkila (nearly 10) and Karma (6-1/2). Along with the help of a circle of friends, we are able to send the children to a boarding school in Kathmandu so that they can receive a decent education. Phurpu and Kanchhi make their living by selling simple goods from a shop in the lower portion of their house, like many other rural Nepalis.....or at least they did until April 25, when the earthquake hit. They are now without a home and without the means to make a living.
Nearly every house in Shyabru bensi was lost in the earthquake. Being mostly made of stone, they were easily destroyed. Not only does Phurpu need shelter for his immediate family, he has a brother, and very elderly parents, all of whom lost their houses. I want to see that they can begin to rebuild their lives by raising enough money to build simple housing. The school in Kathmandu was also damaged and is now closed, so the children and Phurpu will be trying to make their way back to the village on dangerous roads full of landslides, and the children will be in the village with their parents and no real shelter.
Specifically, the funds donated will be used to construct permanent housing for Phurpu and Kanchhi Tamang, and if funds allow for his brother Dorje and his elderly parents, who are yak herders.
Their lives have now been made very difficult, their "dreams finished" as Phurpu recently said to me in a phone conversation. I am committed to restoring some of those dreams, and I am asking for your help in giving a compassionate, resourceful family the chance to put their lives back together.
