Tink Boys Fight Against PKAN
PKAN is a genetic disease in which the body which fail s to synthesize one of the B vitamins. This causes iron to deposit in the brain and kill brain cells. There is no cure and it is terminal. Most people show symptoms in childhood and do not reach adulthood. Our guys have the atypical version so their symptoms did not appear until they were adults. The iron deposits cause a variety of symptoms including early dementia, dystonia (muscle spasms) and problems with speech and balance. The boys will see the leading specialist prior to a conference in Chicago. Hopefully she will give some advice on treating the symptoms, which will improve quality of life.
Jesse, Ernie and Trevor Tink were first diagnosed with this disease 3 years ago. They are the only 3 men in Australia to survive past childhood and are among only a few in the whole world.
The Tinks are heading off to America in May to receive more information and undergo tests.
I have set up this GoFundMe hoping to recieve any help our family can get. This has been a rough road and there are even tougher times ahead.
Any donations for the boys will be greatly appreciated.
