Hi, we are Stuart and Claire Nuttall parents of James John Nuttall who was born prematurely at just 26 weeks and 1 day weighing just 2lb 1oz. We didn’t see James when he was first born as he was very poorly and was rushed into Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit. It was a very stressful time not knowing if our little boy was going to be OK. The doctors said it would be a long and difficult fight, James was diagnosed with severe brain damage, chronic lung disease and hydrocephalus which is fluid on the brain, for which he would need a shunt fitted but would need to grow to a certain weight first. So the fight was on hence the name of the fund “The Little Fighter Fund”
The following days and weeks past with us nearly losing James on a number of occasions. It was the hardest thing myself and Claire had ever gone through but we stayed strong and prayed hard and James would always pull through, he was strong.
James has just turned 5 and over those years we have spent almost half of it in hospital with James having 11 shunt operations and some critical chest infections which have kept him in intensive care. James has difficulty swallowing and has had to have a gastrostomy button fitted in order to tube feed him.
There is a lot more to this story and we could probably write a book but here’s where we are today. Now James is becoming a big boy we need funds in order to build an extension to provide a bedroom and bathroom downstairs to make his life easier and fit it out with specialist equipment he needs and sensory lighting.
