Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
Since I came to the U.S. at the age of nine, I have dedicated myself to my school and to my community. And even though I have lived in North Carolina for over ten years, I am considered an out-of-state student for tuition purposes at North Carolina community colleges and universities because of my immigration status.
Although I form a part of this state and pay federal, state, and local income taxes, I am forced to pay more than double that of my high school classmates for college tuition. This means paying $32,000 per-year at N.C. State University compared to $16,000 per-year, if I were to pay tuition at the in-state tuition rate.
Now that I am closer to transferring to N.C.S.U., the out-of-state tuition will be the barrier that will keep me from attending. This is why I am reaching out to you today: Help me reach my goal of $16,000 to transfer to N.C.S.U. and attend for the 2015 school year.
I know that with the help of God, family, friends, and my community, I will be able to transfer to N.C. State University and study Microbiology.
