Casey and I would first like to thank all of our friends and family for all of the support we have received so far. It is a very humbling and overwhelming decision that we made together to start a public funding page to help our family as we face this journey together.
We learned very early in our pregnancy that our unborn son, Charles Kenneth Walker, was diagnosed with a serious heart condition called Tricuspid Atresia with severe pulmonary stenosis. In other words, one quadrant, the right ventricle, of his heart is missing, which will eventually cause secondary complications. On March 19th at 28 weeks pregnant we were admitted to Maine Medical Center because the functionality of his heart was suddenly digressing. Because of this development, I will remain in the Prenatal Care Unit until Charlie is born. The length of my stay is unknown at this point; our original due date was June 6th. We are hoping that Charlie makes it to as close to full term as possible.
After Charlie is born, he will be scheduled for his first of three open heart surgeries over the next two years. The purpose of these surgeries is to ultimately redirect blood flow to his lungs. Medical knowledge allows us to know Charlie will be placed on a heart transplant list later in life.
Throughout this experience, Casey and I have always tried to remain positive, and the love and prayers we have received from those around us have been such a blessing. We believe that Charlie’s heart is strong, and are praying for the best possible outcome. Words could never express our gratitude for all of the support we have received from our friends and family.
