Theater Motivates.
In 2010 I moved to Baldwin, Long Island. I was pretty lost and lonely in this new environment. Until I met Sharna Jenkins.
Who is this woman? She is part of the reason why I am so outgoing and straight forward today.
We first met when her daughter Janaia was recruiting people to be a part of a teen magazine that Mrs. Jenkins had started. I was interested and took a flyer. Well the rest is history.
Mrs. Jenkins is a full time employee, mother, wife and now a grandmother, yet she always makes time for our theater company. She has been writing, directing and producing theatrical productions since 1993. She takes students from the community and works with us to teach us theater. Not only does she teach us theater, she teaches us how to be outgoing, well-spoken and never afraid of a crowd or a challenge! Not to mention that we rehearse in her home every week! She goes above and beyond for her cast members in more ways that I can even tell you. She is our director, our second mother, our counselor and our best friend. She picks up students when they don’t have a ride; she feeds us, and treats us all like her children. I have grown so strongly onto Mrs. Jenkins that she is the god-mother of my son Cameron.
I have set up this Gofundme campaign to help Mrs. Jenkins to keep doing theater with her theater company “Theater in Motion”. Their most recent production “Like me, Love me, Love you” debuted at the Producers Club in NYC on May 29th. With many positive reviews and a cast full of student eager to present the play again I want to help Mrs. Jenkins to raise money $2000 in order to:
-Present the show again at the producers club
- Take the play to other venues
- Throw a cast party to celebrate all the hard work put into this production
- Market the production
- And just take a bit of the weight off her shoulders!
Mrs. Jenkins has also been coming 100% out of pocket to pay for venues to present shows, marketing for shows and transportation to shows. Mrs. Jenkins has done so much for not only me but all the cast members and community. Now it’s our chance to give back.
