For the Love of Leah

Donation protected
Meet Leah, she was originally rescued from a kill shelter in TX by Cane Corso Rescue.  This poor baby couldn't even sit as her uterus literally hung out of her body so she stood for hours and days on end.  Leah was surrendered to the shelter by her "family" who used her over and over again for her puppies until she was of no use to them anymore.  They literally turned and walked away without an ounce of remorse…leaving her standing at the door of the cage with her uterus hanging out while she wondered what she had done to deserve this, as she had always given them her beautiful babies to sell...Leah doesn’t realize that her humans knew full well she would be of no more use to them as her breeding days are over.

In spite of all her suffering Leah is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever met.  All she wants to do is hug with her big paws and always sneeks in a kiss or two or ten.   Three weeks after adopting this sweet girl she starting having breathing problems.  I rushed her to the vet where they discovered a slight case of bloat but this was caused by a more serious issue.  They found a tumor/mass on her right lung which was causing aspiration pneumonia.  The next day we headed to Washington State University Veterinary School where she underwent a CT scan and further testing.  The doctors and surgeon seem optimistic that they will be able to perform surgery to remove the mass which is almost the size of a tennis ball. They will also remove a portion of her lung and possibly need to insert a feeding tube for a week.  She will spend at least 3-4 days in ICU if everything goes as planned.

If this weren't enough, Leah is also in desperate need of surgery on her prolapse.  The vets originally thought it would be able to heal itself after she was spayed but it turns out the area has far too much damage to it.  Her vaginal wall is hanging outside of her body and causing urinary tract infections.  This will continue if they do not remove it.  This will need to be done after her lung surgery because of the length of both procedures.

Leah, at only 4 years old, deserves the chance to finally be a normal, healthy dog.  She was used and abused until she was tossed aside like garbage.  She now has lots of people that love her and our home has gained a wonderful family member.  I will never turn my back on this girl, she has a purpose here!  She is meant to live and be happy!  Please help this sweet rescued soul live a long, enjoyable life.  Thank you so much!
