Teresa and Kurt Walker-Medical Fund

Donation protected
Teresa and Kurt have faced many challenges in their 44 years together. Inseparable since they were teenagers, they have raised a beautiful family, opened their home to friends and strangers alike and run several small businesses. As the owners and operators of Best Little Printhouse In Town they are longtime members of the Cottage Grove, OR community.
As a high school football coach and teacher Kurt has mentored hundreds of children and the couple have been steadfast supporters of small businesses and countless local and national charities. Today they are asking for your help.

Teresa has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. While the initial days of hospitalization were frightening and discouraging, Teresa did what Teresa does and fought like hell, defying the odds and surpassing everyone’s expectations. With a confirmed diagnosis comes a hopeful treatment plan and the doctors are optimistic about her recovery. Still weak, Teresa must remain hospitalized until the completion of her chemotherapy, likely several more weeks.

For decades the Walkers bought and paid for medical insurance for all their employees. In January of 2017 they were priced out of the market and unable to continue to protect themselves or their people. So along with 35 million other Americans, 60% of whom are small business owners or employees, Teresa and Kurt do not have health insurance. With monthly premiums nearing $2000 per month and a $10,000 deductible, they are among the 13% of Americans who fall into the widening gap where income is too high to receive subsidized insurance but monthly premiums high enough to put coverage out of reach. 35 million people who must play the odds, betting their lives against a broken healthcare system. It’s expected at least another 3.5 million people will be priced out of coverage by January 2019, as premiums rise an estimated 18%.

All money raised by this campaign will be used towards Teresa’s medical expenses and related costs. If more is raised than needed the Walkers will do what they have always done: pass it on to someone who needs it more than they do who is struggling against the same challenges they are right now.

If you are able to give it will be appreciated more than you can know. But, more importantly, the Walkers ask that you share their story. Contact your local representatives and demand that they actively pursue solutions to our healthcare crisis. If enough of us demand action change is inevitable. There is no reason that every American shouldn’t have access to affordable health care. Please share this campaign. Become part of the conversation, part of the solution.

Updates will be posted regularly. Thank you for your time and your support.
