It has been 3 months since I've updated everyone on Jalisa's progress. I am happy to report that the last 3 months has been an experience that we will always remember from the love and support we received from everyone. Jalisa has been amazing through the continuing challenges of complicated surgeries with a great outcome. She is delighted knowing her last surgery should be taking place later in April if all goes well.
As I sit here reflecting on these last 10 months and watching Jalisa recover from this unfortunate tragedy; I'm overwhelmed with joy & happiness knowing that my daughter has grown into this beautiful, strong, courageous young woman.

"We have to do the best we can. This is our sacred human responsibility. There is only one road to true human greatness: through the school of hard knocks."

Everyone can see the effects of God's mercy but who, except God himself, understands the essence of his mercy? 2013 has been a year to remember, Jalisa is embracing & looking forward to all that 2014 has to offer. It is love that brings happiness to people, love heals all pain. Your thoughts, prayers and generosity have been truly breathtaking. Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays! Love the Barnes family

We as a family have found that gratitude unlocks the fullness of life, it turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend, gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. We thank each and every one of you for all the love, gifts, and prayers!!! Love you!

Jalisa is a intelligent, sweet, athletic, kind, a wonderful sister and daughter who’s blossomed into a beautiful 21 year old young lady. Jalisa has always been blessed with excelling in everything life has presented to her: 2009 & 2010 All state, All county, All conference, & New York State Volleyball player of the year. She was on the honor roll throughout her high school years, played the clarinet, and she graduated from East Rockaway High school early after signing with the University of Pittsburgh Volleyball team in 2010. On May 13th, 2013 she tragically encountered a rare but most severe blood infection Group A Streptococcus resulting in necrotizing Fasciitis and Streptococcal Septic Shock Syndrome. She has lost both legs, her right thumb and will lose part of her left thumb with other fingertips in question, she has minimal too no use of her hands or arms. Jalisa's life has changed forever. She remains in Trauma ICU, she’s strong, a fighter, and has "WOWED" the surgeons and all of us with her progress. Jalisa has had over 20 surgeries thus far with more to come but by the grace of God, she’s alive. Any donations to help Jalisa through this will be greatly appreciated. All donations will go towards Jalisa’s Hospital, Medical care and Recovery expenses that she needs to regain as much of her life back as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read her story.

this is a message that i sent to someone who contacted me about my offer." if u cud please explain to their family that the van is no longer available, i had a big problem and am longer to even have a chance to obtain anything because i no longer work for that company, id appreciate it if you could explain it to the family and anyone else that was waiting for an update. im truly sorry tht i couldnt make this happen, i tried my hardest and did everything in my power to make it work but it turns out that its just too big of a request and all my efforts have gone to waste, please express my deepest apologies and i will still be donating some funds but nothing near what i was hoping to do. again im deeply sorry for geting peoples hopes up and i feel like a real for lack of a better word, dick.please do your best to explain that i am a failure and i let everyone down. im very sorry and thank you for taking the time to talk to me. please let me know what happens when you break the news to them and i will understand if they want to curse me out or anything of that nature because i failed them, ive done everything i could but it just wasnt enough, sorry and thank you for your help and support."

i see the mini van with wheel chair lift is an item on the wish list, i work for an ambulance company that i spoke to and told them Jalissa's story and we were wondering if instead of a mini van ,would a white van with windows all around, painted to your liking, and fully equipped with a functioning electrical wheel chair lift would be a donation you would be willing to accept. if so please contact me asap so we can get together and show you what the van looks like and how it functions because we would love to help out and donate the vehicle if it to your liking, my name is Brian Beauchesne and my phone number is 1-516-668-7379, or you can message me on Facebook, Facebook name Brian Mathers. i look forward to hearing from the admin of this page so we can make your wish a reality, we'd love to help out in anyway possible. dont hesitate to call and i wish you all the best and speedy recovery. thank you for your time :)
