Mae Smith's Cancer Battle

Donation protected

My best friend Mae Smith is an incredible, wonderful, loving, caring, giving person. She is a mother and a grandmother, and works very, very hard to take care of her family.
In September of 2014 during a routine yearly exam she was diagnosed with advanced cancer in her pancreas and liver and gallbladder.
Shortly after, she found out that the small company she had worked for, for many years was going out of business, and she would need to find another job. While dealing with the devastating news that she had cancer, she had to go on interviews, and was fortunate to find another job, who was understanding about her upcoming surgery, and willing hold her position until she was cleared to begin work.
In October 2014, they removed a large portion of her pancreas and a portion of the right side of her liver and began radiation therapy to the left side to shrink the cancer in preparation for additional surgery to remove the cancer from the left side of her liver (this allowed the right side of her liver to rejuvenate itself ) and to remove her gallbladder.
When Mae was diagnosed and had the first surgery she had no medical insurance, and was 100% self pay... and is currently over $200,000.00 in debt with doctor and hospital bills. Once she was out of the hospital, they helped her find insurance that would take her with a "pre-existing condition" , but her premium is over $600.00 a month!
Mae is a Pharmacist and employed with Walgreen's and she is also currently still repaying her student loans from pharmacy school she still owes the Federal Government a large amount on her as well as paying for the portion of her daughter's college tuition that was not covered under scholarships, in addition to her regular bills of house payment, utilities, car payment, car insurance and groceries as well as her insurance premium and her co-pays and meditations she must take daily.   Mae is working any and all extra shifts and over-time she can get. she is working some days 14+ hour days, 5 and 6 days a week.   This is not something, that someone who is battling cancer should be doing. She is constantly stressed and worried and is always being harassed by bill collectors calling about late payments and past due bills. Again, Stress, is not something that is productive to a body that is trying to heal.
Yesterday, July 30th, 2015, we went to her doctor appointment and the doctor said she is ready for her second surgery to remove the gallbladder and the cancer from the left side of her liver.   Things are not exactly how they had planned though, as the cancer has moved into her lymph-nodes and her ovary as well.    This is going to be a tougher surgery on her than the last one, with a longer recovery time. She is worried about her employment. she also found out that as of December 15th, 2015 her expensive medical insurance is dropping her and she will once again be 100% self pay.

So, I am opening this gofundme to help Mae as much as possible to ease the financial burden on her as much as we can. She doesn't need this stress. She is the type of person that will give the shirt off her back, hand over her last dollar to help someone else, and give selflessly to everyone else. She hates to ask for help, which is why I am asking for her. She will not ask herself. She will allow things to get turned off, she will go without eating, etc...before she will say, "hey, I need help".
Please, if you can spare anything, even if it's just a couple of bucks, every little bit helps. Thank you so much!
