Nepal earthquake disaster relief

Welcome! Namaste! Tashidelek!
My name is Ang Dawa Sherpa and I grew up in the village of Panggum, part of the beautiful Everest region of Nepal. I was trained by my family to begin mountain climbing at a very early age. I was a professional guide in the Himalayas by the time I turned 18. I have enjoyed a great deal of fortune in my career, leading treks and expeditions throughout Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and the Alps of Europe. Despite this great fortune, many children in my country still lack the basic necessities. I have dedicated much of my time and money to help them from my new and distant home in Seattle, WA.

As you probably know, a catastrophic earthquake in Nepal set off avalanches around Mount Everest, where at least 17 climbers have died. More than 10,000 people have died and the death toll continues to rise. Over 9,000 are injured and eight million have been affected. Historic monuments which have stood tall and proud for many centuries have been reduced to shambles. Most importantly, about one million children urgently need assistance. These children have lost their families, their homes or their schools.

To help them, I have been hosting a series of benefit dinners and events at my restaurant here in Seattle. Now I am compelled to reach out to a much larger, more global audience. Please help the children of Nepal to realize that while they may be living in fear and panic, they are not alone. We share with them fear, pain and compassion.

Why fund my campaign? I work closely with organizations that stretch every dollar and then get my family and friends in Nepal monitor their work. Right now, for example, I am allocating funds to Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (http://www.nnmga.org.np) while they are on the ground, working around the clock to rescue & recovery earthquake & avalanche victims. When relief gives way to recovery, I will ensure that support shifts to BuildOn (www.buildon.org), which consists of small, mostly self-funded teams that build schools in some of the world’s poorest villages (with virtually zero administrative costs).

I hope I can count on you to help reach this goal. Also, if you live in the Greater Seattle Area, please consider attending one of my benefit events. All proceeds go directly to the organizations mentioned above. For more information (or to purchase seats) go to - https://www.dyne.com/nepal-benefit-dinner/
