Tammy's PR Fieldwork & CAUWW

Hello Friends, Family & Colleagues,

I'm excited to share that I'll be returning this summer to continue my work surrounding the current struggles in Puerto Rico. For several weeks I will be responding to historical images and texts by photographing along the central and southeast parts of the island.

While there, I will be connecting with Tanya Garcia, a brilliant colleague from MICA, who I look forward to collaborating with as we photograph and film on location and interview residents.

I have also selected one of my promising students from Riverside Community College as an intern, Cindy Hernandez,  to assist me on the trip and with a forthcoming photo book and exhibition.

Later in my travels, I'll be attending a residency program called Community Arts University Without Walls (CAUWW) in Santurce which promises to be a fruitful time to meet fellow artists, academics and community organizers while delving into diasporic and cultural studies.

Your donation will go towards supporting costs of  travel, lectures and exhibitions related to my fieldwork in Puerto Rico that I will bring back to the states.

Thanks for your support!

About the Program:
Community Arts University Without Walls is a creative cultural experience in Puerto Rico curated by the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute for individuals that are passionate about cultural immersive education and want to engage with others involved in cultural arts advocacy. Residents will get to connect with the cultural workers leading a very progressive and empowering arts and cultural movement in Puerto Rico. The island, recently recognized as a US colony by the United Nations, is currently undergoing a debt crisis comparable to the financial collapses of Greece and Detroit. Amidst the economic and humanitarian uncertainties, a powerful cultural and art movement has bloomed. CCCADI, a pioneer in wielding art as a tool of social justice, takes you right to the center of this movement with CAUWW.
