Surgery for Shigure!
Hi! I'm Kaila, a yoga teacher in Madison, Wisconsin.
When I was 19 years old and brand new to New York City, I adopted from the ASPCA a cute little kitten and named him Shigure to keep my company in my lonely big city days.
Shigure has been my rock forever, following me through more than 10 apartments, job after job, and countless ups and downs all the way back to Madison, WI, where I moved to help take care of my niece 3 years ago.
Shigure recently suffered a urethral blockage, which is common for male cats of his age. Many can be unblocked, but Shigure's procedures have been unsuccessful and I have had to pay for a reconstructive urethral surgery.
Shigure's surgery and medical bills came in at a cost of $3136. It's not as bad as I had imagined, but much more than the original unblocking estimates of $800. By the time we got to the point of surgery, we were so far into the bills that it felt unfair to not give him one more shot. As of right now, it seems I made a great choice!
Shigure continues to heal while I organize his new life. He's in a cone for 2 weeks, will have the stitches removed, and then I'll have to monitor him for one more week after that. He'll need special litter for a long time and a prescription diet (that Achilles will probably end up eating too - haha) for the REST of his life. It's expensive, but worth it for the health of my bub.
June will be a busy month for me - taking care of the bub while wrangling his brother Achilles away from him, who is NOT a fan of the cone!
