What can you say about a twenty eight year old girl who has a brain tumour?”
Sam Hodge is a kind, beautiful, funny and selfless girl who is planning on getting married in November 2015 to AJ, the love of her life. But on 19th March this year her life changed forever. After her fiance AJ woke to her having a seizure, she was rushed to hospital, where she underwent numerous rounds of tests; we then found out she has a grade 2 fibrillary astrocytoma (a brain tumour). Soon after this she went in for life threatening brain surgery.
90 percent of the tumour has been removed but 10 percent had to remain as it's in a place which is hard to get to without causing her serious damage... This is why Sam needs your help.
Brain tumours of this type almost always come back, and the tentacles of the 10 percent that is remaining may have already spread to her healthy brain tissue. Sam is therefore going to be facing radiation and chemotherapy, along with further brain surgeries, when (not if) it reappears.
It has been an emotionally draining and terrifying few months for Sam and her family, but she is facing this challenge with her typical positivity, humour and incredible spirit. She has radically adapted her diet to adopt a raw, unprocessed and whole foods diet and is laser focused on doing everything in her power to combat this disease head on.
With her trademark irreverent humour she has also named her tumour ‘Terrence’ (#fuckterrence).
But despite her incredible positivity there are urgent practical matters that need to be dealt with. Sam and her fiancé moved down the coast just six months ago to build a new dream life for themselves and their future. They bought a house that needed work and began renovating whilst AJ began building a new business. All of which, along with their planned November wedding, Sam has been unable to return to her work as a beauty therapist and AJ has had to take considerable time off from his business to take her to medical appointments as she is no longer able to drive.
Throw in huge medical bills and Sam and AJ find themselves in the middle of a financial storm of increased outgoings and significantly decreased income – at precisely the moment that they need to put all of their energies into what is going to be a fight.
In order to help them focus on the fight ahead and not let their financial fears overtake them we are aiming to raise enough money to take care of their immediate medical bills and living expenses. And who knows? If we raise enough there maybe enough to help give them their dream backyard wedding. That would be pretty awesome.
Sam and AJ moved to the coast to chase their dream and build a future together. They now find themselves in the middle of their worst nightmare but with your help we would desperately like to get them back on the path to their happy ever after.
