We are the GED students at Pathways For Change The Family Center in Pensacola, FL. We have enrolled in GED preparation classes with free childcare to help prepare us to take our GED test. The areas of focus are language arts (reading & writing), mathematics, social studies and science. Eligible participants in our classes are those who are at least 18 years of age or older (unless granted a waiver), not currently enrolled in an accredited high school, and those who have not already graduated from an accredited high school or received a high school equivalency diploma.
We usually fit into one of these categories:
•Struggling financially. Household income is 200% or less of federal poverty guideline.
• Working to restore and strengthen their family.
• Involved in the child welfare system or at risk.
• Seeking recovery from a substance abuse problem.
• Living in low-income housing.
• Reintegrating into the community from prison or jail.
• Desiring a change and a new direction in life.
A common barrier for us is not being able to afford the cost of the GED exam.
For your donation of $24, a student can take the GED pre-test online (required if student is under age 18).
For your donation of $32, a student can take one section of the GED test.
For your donation of $128, a student can take the full GED test.
Most employers require candidates to have completed their GED in order to get hired. We plan on getting employed as soon as we pass our exam!
