My name is Sabrina Cannella, I'm 22 years old from Toronto, Ontario. Almost 10 years ago I fell ill with what my doctors believed to be a classic case of appendicitis, but instead turned into a life long journey filled with complex chronic illnesses. To date doctors have discovered that I have a rare liver, gastrointestinal, autoimmune, nerve and allergy conditions that are caused by a genetic disease known as Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. These conditions have drastically altered and changed my life, but not consumed it.
It has helped me realize that my priority in this lifetime is to leave the world a better place than when I entered it. Growing up in my local children's hospital in Toronto has put into perspective how passionate I am in making that a reality. I made a promise to myself during one of my hospital stays that I would never be too ill to give back and that no child would ever feel alone. That promise has given me a reason to keep fighting.
The proceeds from this campaign go towards bringing comfort items and fulfilling needs of families and patients facing life threatening and chronic illnesses. Hospital life and life in general become incredibly expensive and difficult very quickly, these funds ease the financial burden families carry and allow them to focus on healing as well as bringing comfort items and activities to children and siblings in the community.
Items such as clothing or pyjamas, blankets, or pillows, arts and crafts, gift cards, books, toys, household items, parking passes, financial assistance, food, and various other tools to support those in need throught the Greater Toronto Area
