STOP FDOT HARASSMENT IN THE KEYS!

In a narrow chain of islands, such as the Florida Keys, the right of way along US 1 is crucial for parking, access, advertising, and in some cases, commercial buildings and other landmark structures, built decades ago, even sit upon the right of way or very close to it. Recently, FDOT has begun demanding that local businesses lease this right of way, which has been freely used for decades and maintained by local businesses at their own expense. FDOT has threatened to plant foliage, block access and parking areas, and even seize items unless local businesses comply with their monetary demands. Many of the small, mom & pop businesses in the Keys simply cannot afford to pay these lease fees and may be forced to close. Help support our local businesses, save our parking, and maintain the unique character of the Florida Keys.
