Help me and help the Forest City Velodrome.
In 2008, I was overweight and the most exercise I did was lifting the TV remote control. At 265lbs, that year, I had an epiphany: shape up or else. I found the bike and lost 90lbs. I have since taken to track and crit racing. For almost 6 years now, I have been training and getting faster. I hope to make it to the UCI Track Worlds in the next few years, but I have a ways to go.
I have three major goals this year:
1) Race at Speedweek and win my way into the Athens Twilight Amateur final on April 25, 2015.
2) Race and pickup points in the Larkenville Challenge in Buffalo, NY
3) Compete and get a top 10 finish in the Ontario Provincial Criterium in Windsor in Sept.
I see Speedweek to be a great way get a crash course (no pun intended) on racing in the early season. 5-10 racing opportunities over a seven day period. In my mind, there is no better training camp like it. The Larkenville Challenge series starts in May. The Provincial Crit is in September. I see Speedweek as an integral part of training for crit racing. Therefore, I am asking for your support to get me there. I would have gone to Speedweek in 2014, but the funds were not there, and as it stands currently, without your support, I may miss it again. Car repairs, moving expenses, bicycle repairs, you name it and it has happened in the last six months.
I am running a training camp in Florida at the end of March, volunteering my time and funds, taking a group of cyclists to train for the 2015 cycling season.
Select one of the campaign levels, or donate what you can afford. Any amount would be helpful. As an added bonus, anything I raise over and above the costs to get me there, will be donated directly to the Forest City Velodrome. I owe a lot to that place and the people that run it. They donate their time, skills and patience to help athletes like myself achieve their fitness goals.
