When can you get a group of 40 women to agree on anything? When the members of Sound Celebration Chorus share a passion for entertaining audiences with 4-part acapella harmony!
Sound Celebration is a group of women from the greater Springfield area, ranging in age from 14 to 80 and coming from all walks of life. Established in 1953, we are one of the first chapters chartered in Sweet Adelines International. Added together, we bring 664 years of harmonizing barbershop style.
Flashback to April 18, 2015, to our performance in the Sweet Adelines regional competition in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As the final notes of “Time After Time” floated to the back of the Paramount Theatre—drowned out, in part, by the cheers from the standing ovation—we stood on the stage, accepting our applause from the audience, and knew we had accomplished what we came there to do. We sang well and conveyed the emotion of the music to the audience as well as to the judges, who were beaming up at us.
We returned home with our medals and trophy, realizing there was a chance that our score might be high enough to qualify for international competition. By the end of May, we received the official declaration that we scored 4th highest in our division in the world! We did it! We qualified for Harmony Classic!
We're preparing to compete on the international stage in October. All 40 women in Sound Celebration agree that this is one of the most exciting opportunities of our lives. We’ve already earned a spot in the top 5 small choruses in the world—we can only go UP from here!
