Levi is a very sweet loving kind 8 yr old boy in the 3rd grad at Geiger Montessori. He loves his little sister Ruby and is always telling his parents he loves them and wants to hug them too. Unfortunately Levi has been in hospital over a week now. He has Guillian Barre Syndrome which is where they get paralysed from legs up to chest. If it reaches the chest muscles he would not be able to breath and be put on a ventilator.
Luckily his mom got him to hospital early and they started treatment without having a real diagnosis on a Drs. hunch !
By then the paralysis was at the level if his arms!
The medicine stopped the disease from progressing any higher and has kept it at the arms level.
He is now in the latent phase which could take 1,2,3 weeks, months , years before it decides to revert itself !?? :-(
He is unable to walk at present, the PT make him use a walker but he is just holding himself up with his arms and dragging his feet.
He can do only about 10 feet distance before he collapses into wheelchair behind him !!
He will have to go home with wheelchair , 3 x week PT at Mary Bridge hosp.
His mom is trying to get him set up with home hospital teaching, and talking to his elementary school / Principal about what accommodations he will need at school.
He'll have a buddy to push him around so he doesn't get too tired! Lots of assistance required!!
Levi overall is a very resilient boy, happy go lucky with a great " take it in your stride" attitude. No pun intended :-). He will endeavour to do his best and try his hardest to get better and back to school, because he just loves school sooooo much!!!
His parents however are having a very hard time with all this and are grateful for all the love, prayer and support they are so kindly receiving from friends and family. They have both been at his side all day every day, mom sleeping overnite during the week and dad in the weekends.
Ruby just wants to stay all the time to be with her brother because she just loves him sooooo much as do the rest of his family !
