Stuarts Draft HS Greenhouse Project

SDHS GREENHOUSE PROJECT SPONSORED BY THE EAST AUGUSTA YOUNG FARMERS

Hi! We are the East Augusta Young Farmers and we have created this campaign to support our local FFA and agriculture department at Stuarts Draft High School. 

Last spring the Augusta County Public Schools approved the purchase of a greenhouse for our high school. We could not be more thrilled to have this addition to our department but we are looking for donations to pay for its construction. 

The greenhouse kit came with all the necessary systems and pieces of equipment to the tune of $26,000. We were told by a local contractor that it will cost roughly $35,000 to construct the greenhouse, beginning with site preparation all the way through to building protective masonry footers around the base to keep drivers from destroying the building as they speed  through the back parking lot. 

The purpose of buying the greenhouse was to teach our students skills that they can use to gain employment within our local green industry. We've had several nurseries and plant-research businesses approach us about potential skilled workers but we currently have no teaching laboratory for horticulture and plant science. This greenhouse is the key to changing our department to meet local employer needs.

We firmly believe that our agriculture department has a responsibility to prepare the next generation of skilled laborers, scientists, and agriculturalists to meet the needs of a changing world. We sincerely hope that you will help us raise the funds necessary to build our greenhouse!
