Give Kids a Better School in Kenya

Donation protected
Nyabiage Primary School is located in Homa Bay county in western Kenya .  The school is a partnership between the Kenya government and the community.  The government pays the teachers' salaries, but the village is responsible for building the school infrastructure. Paul Alwalah’s ( who works in IT at CRF Health ) parents live in the community where the school is located.  The village picked Paul as a patron/role model of the school due to his accomplishments (college degree), and the fact that he is the only member of the village to come to the United States.

Over the past 10 years, he has helped take the school from students sitting on rocks under trees to having an actual school house.  Paul's dream is to finish building the school house and to eventually have a 'tech center' where the children can be exposed to technology and have the chance to interact with computers.

So far,  they have built classrooms for 4th - 8th grade (5 rooms and an office for a principal/storage).  The children in the lower level grades (1st to 3rd) now attend school in a structure made of mud - hopefully, this will change very soon and they can attend a school with stone walls and windows.

There are 168 students from 1st to 8th grade attending this primary school (ages 6 to 13).  The goal is to help build structures / classrooms for this school.

The short term goal by the end of 2014 is to build a fence around the school to keep it safe and secure and free from wandering cows and goats from the village.  Also, a fence will protect the crops that the children plant throughout the school year.

Paul needs our help to raise $2500 by November 21, 2014 to build the fence - donations will be directly put towards purchasing the materials to build the fence such as lumber, labor, nails, barbed wires, cement, sand, and rocks.

Please donate today to support Paul's quest to make sure all of the children in his home-town village in Kenya are able to attend a properly built school with updated facilities -- and in the future, have a place to have access to technology which is so important in today's world.
