Who I am:
• My name is Kyle D. Morris, Philadelphia native, known as kdmorris, with over thirty years as a professional photographer, I have been teaching FREE photography lessons to a community of interested individuals since 2010 in exchange for meals or small contributions for my time.
• I am an advocate for teaching people to remove the words "CAN'T and TRY" from their vocabularies and become people with a CAN DO spirit and mentality. I have learned that creative outlets and thinking are the best avenues for such freedom. I have hundreds of people who refer to me as their "teacher" or "mentor' and I humbly accept those titles.
• For the record: I have never borrowed or solicited funds from a financial institution, or individuals to reach the level of success and respect as a photographer that I have earned.
I am asking for your help:
• I am seeking funds to cover costs, that will allow me to assist those who were devastated by fire or natural disasters, and lost everything, including their "precious memories" by recreating their moments through my lens, locally and around the country.
If I must travel by air to an affected area, I work for a major airline, so I am NOT asking for airfare, but am seeking funds that will cover ground transportation, meals and lodging.
• It is my intent to take family photos, recreate wedding memories, class pictures or create specific images for those who survived and are were affected by the loss and destruction of their property and photographic images at NO CHARGE to them.
• I know that I can't turn back time, but it is my way of helping people START OVER, without having to pay me.
• How it will work?
I would travel with my own lighting system and camera equipment, memory cards and spend at least two to three days in an affected area, creating images and once the sessions are complete, I will either transfer the images to their computer or provide the memory cards to the families, groups or individuals to print them out at their leisure and convenience. I replace lost images by recreating weddings, family portraits and life events at no charge.
Ways people can help:
Gift cards from reputable photography outlets given directly to those affected, on behalf of this GoFundMe campaign "Saving Memories"
I will get a call or email from the affected individual(s) and provide the service - they use the gift card at the outlet (i.e.: Ritz Camera...and the like) or After Sox and David's Bridal. I will coordinate with thelocal assistance agencies to help to expedite the process.
• Who benefits?
We all do, by paying it forward. That's what I am doing because, I have been blessed by many people and I have been paying it forward ever since...
...this is another way of my commitment to humanity.
• How much notice is required?
At least two weeks for up to five families or groups, and one month for schools and organizations.
• Will I need to provide proof that I was affected?
Yes. Whatever documentation that is available. I will coordinate all appointments with the American Red Cross, local law enforcement and other agencies for the benefit of all parties.
• Will you need to rent equipment or a vehicle?
It depends on the location, distance and need of the community that I will serve.
• Will there be other photographers with you?
It depends on the area, need and availability of funds and the photographer.
• What are you getting from all of this?
Satisfaction in knowing that I helped those in need with a talent and service that I am blessed to have, and all the smiles and gratitude that come with it.
• You said you work, how will this affect your employment?
My employer is very helpful when it comes to community service and activism, as long as it doesn't put them in a negative light. I will have to sacrifice my own time and income to make it happen, and I am ready to do just that...
...happiness is priceless.
• What if they can't put you in a hotel or feed you?
It depends on where the affected party/parties are, and what it would take for me to get there, how many I must provide for as well as my availability. If I can, I will come out of pocket and follow my heart.
