Saving Grace Ministries--and The Bailey Ave Café and Bake Shoppe --are facing tremendous issues and hoping for your support.
To make a very long story short, we are devastated, and in need of funding to help rebuild.
As of August 6th, we had to close the Bailey Ave Cafe and Bake Shoppe for the next several weeks because a car crashed into the building. The damage is severe. Luckily no one was injured, but the Cafe needs a lot of work.
We need to rebuild because we use the Bailey Ave Café and Bake Shoppe as a job training program for the people we serve through Saving Grace Ministries.
One in three people released by correctional facilities in Erie County are sent to us at Saving Grace Ministries. We serve those individuals that no other service provider is willing to serve, and especially not willing to house—often our people live on the margins of life. It is hard work; but our case managers and staff see a ray of hope, life potential in someone even where their record indicates that they are destined for a life of incarceration. This is why our services are so needed. If we aren’t around, who will fill this void?
The Bailey Ave Café and Bake Shoppe (BACBS) is a job training program that SGM developed to provide food service and preparation training to SGM clients through on-the-job work experience. It is located immediately adjacent to the SGM headquarters. It is a to-go neighborhood deli and bakery staffed by program residents and graduates. Our clients work there for 6-9 months, completing our certification process. They learn food safety, food preparation, baking, cooking, and point-of-sale purchase procedure, providing valuable work experience for future employment.
