The Yerwood Community Center and Yerwood Inc. are at risk of closing its doors. The center has lost electricity, water, and gas has all been shut off. This is a vital pillar to Stamford's West Side Community. Founded in 1943 by Fairfield Counties first African-American physician, Dr. Joyce Yerwood founded the Stamford Negro Community Center which is now the Yerwood Community Center.

Over its 65-year history, the Yerwood Center has been a safe-haven community center providing affordable and convenient educational, recreational and life-skills programs to families, especially youth in Stamford's urban communities.

We are attempting to raise funds to cover the centers Financial, legal and operating expenses in order to restore programming for children and the community.

The mission of the Yerwood Center is to provide education and personal development opportunities to Stamford’s diverse community.  The Yerwood Center provides personal development opportunities through educational, nutritional, recreational, and social programs in a safe and secure environment.  It also provides resource access, including technology and information. The goal of the Yerwood Center is to improve the lives of Stamford’s citizens as a means to building a stronger community in Stamford.
