Save the Marina Marsh & Meadow

Donation protected

The Marina Marsh & Meadow is now threatened by a huge 5 & 6-story hotel complex that would destroy this beautiful open space - the last 2.2 acres of open space on the west side of Marina del Rey.

For years, this LAST undeveloped parcel in the marina on the Los Angeles coast has provided a bit of breathing room and glimpses of wild nature in the city - with remnants of the historical Ballona Wetlands marsh still obvious.

Herons, Egrets, and songbirds forage (feed) in this marsh and meadow on Via Marina at Tahiti Way.

The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission approved this significant development this week - on July 22, 2015 - and if we are to save this land for open space and nature - we must appeal their decision to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors within two weeks!   It will cost money to file the appeal and to hire legal counsel to obtain a legal analysis of our position.

Our vision is to - stop this ill-conceived project.  To instead find a way to preserve this space - 1 acre for nature, for the birds to still have a place to feed and rest - and 1 acre for a small, but much-needed park for the thousands of residents and visitors to this area.

In order to do this, we will need to challenge the decision of the Planning Commission and persuade the Board of Supervisors that our vision makes more sense...  and that the hotel project is legally flawed.

We need your involvement and your support.  Please consider a donation today to this Ballona Institute campaign.  We will use the funds to organize the community, to hire legal experts, to research possible support for creating the park space, and for advocating the vision to be adopted by the County, including new Supervisors who may not be comfortable with "business as usual" in this part of the county.

Please donate today to Ballona Institute's Save the Marina Marsh & Meadow campaign!   We - and the entire neighborhood of residents and nature lovers in the region - will be very grateful.
